Here's an important conversation to have when you are deciding to use cloth diapers. You need to decide if you like snaps or aplix (a slightly stronger velcro). After numerous diapers with some with snaps and some with aplix, I've decided that this is an important decision to make. In our house we're split, Kevin likes aplix more than the snaps and I like the snaps, slightly more than the aplix.
Why? Well, I like the fact that the snaps do not come undone, they're easy to put him in and are hard for him to bust out of (not that he has busted out of any of his diapers, but down the road...) they're also easy to make the diaper tighter or looser. Over the weekend we had someone put Jakoby in a aplix diaper and left the tabs super loose on his body. Granted, it is quite easy to undo the aplix and quickly make it tighter, but I do like that I could tell someone he can have 3 snaps in the front showing.
The one major thing I don't like about the aplix is the washing. Some of the brands (Haute Pockets and sometimes Happy Heinys) aplix tabs do not always stay on their special washing tabs while washing and attach themselves to every other diaper. It's great that there are tabs to attach them to, however, when they do not stay attached and you pull out a string of diapers, it's kind of annoying. It also leaves little pulls in the fabric of the diaper, which I am sure does not add to the life of the diaper. Also aplix is more likely to wear out or need to be replaced. So, my vote is for snaps. Currently we have 2 or 3 diapers with snaps, the rest are aplix. I think it is high time we invested in some new square print Happy Heinys with snaps :)

I like the Aplix due to their ease of attachment when putting on the diaper and the non-discrete positioning to best fit the baby's waist. Plus they look and attach much like disposable diapers do for guest diaper changers.
I do like the use of snaps for the overall size of diaper so that it grows with the baby. Snaps around the waist are cumbersome for quick attachment. Perhaps I simply have fat finger syndrome.
