Jr. Park Ranger: Gettysburg National Military Park

We spent a gorgeous day in the small town of Gettysburg and nearby countryside.  The day started with a search for graveyards.  We were able to find the gravestones for my five time great grandfather, my there time great grandparents, great great grandparents, and great grandparents.   Much of my extended family from long ago was in that area of Pennsylvania.   It was an interesting thing to see and experience.

The National Park, has many trails, 1300 monuments, cemeteries, and things to see.   We started in the visitor center and concluded that we wouldn't watch the video this time around (you really need a FULL day to see everything in Gettysburg you'd be better off with 2 days).    Little Man got a "family" Jr Park Ranger book and we set off to earn points.   You receive a different rank depending on the amount of points you earn.  Since we were going for free, we had limited points that we could earn--we also had limited time so much of the booklet was completed with some aid...good thing it said it was a "family" book.   :)  

We visited, the National Cemetery where Abe Lincoln spoke, we did one loop of the battlefield including Pickett's charge, Devil's Den, the Round Tops, the high-water mark, cemetery and seminary ridges.  It was an exhausting day, I think we walked at least 5 miles (considering we drove around that park, that is impressive)!

Little man earned a patch here commemorating 150 year anniversary of the war.
