What a weekend....

To start with we had visitors this weekend. A very good and fun thing. We went to go to the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum (quite pleasant... you should go!). Amongst some unpleasant things, the worst was the escapades of our washing machine. Well, the washing-machine-formerly-known-as-ours.

Yesterday, I fininshed a load of diapers and started a load of cold white clothing. It was a large, filled to the brim, load of clothes. Part way through the cycle the washer starts tweeting. Yes, it sounded like a bird was caught in the machine. I stopped the machine opened the lid and smelled like something was burning....darn I thought there goes a belt (not that I know ANYTHING about washers... I just figured that was the issue). After a phone call to my father, I decided to let the water drain out and then have my husband take the back off the machine and fix it. Easy, right? WRONG. To start with the washer refused to rinse, then it claimed to be finished, however, it refused to drain. I had to lift every piece of sopping wet clothing out of the washer wring it out and then bring it to the bathroom to rinse it and re-wring it out, before bringing it to the dryer. UGH. Our bathroom is not in a very convienent location for all of this traversing... I now understand the joy of a sink in the laundry room. Anyway, Kevin was wonderful, he helped me rinse (well he rinsed most of the clothing because at that point I was dealing with a cranky, hungry baby) Kevin then attempted to take off the back. We thought that this would be an easy tasks...remove a couple screws, replace what needs to be replaced and we're back in business. If only it were that easy. The "screws" were not on the back, they were on the bottom and sides and according to the diagram online, it appeared that all four sides had to come off and completely dismantle the washer in order to get into it. As much fun as that sounded, we decided to just move the slightly older, smaller, came with the apt washer back into the house.

After church on Sunday, Kevin turned off the water and proceed to take the hose out of the spicket and prepared to move the broken machine into the garage. As soon as the hose came off, water was EVERYWHERE. On the walls, the floors, the windows, the shoes, the pictures, the electrical outlets, the light switches...Kevin tried to turn off the water in a different spot....no luck there were now growing puddles on the floor creeping into the pantry. Finally, the landlord let us know where the hidden water valve was and he was able to offically shut off the water. The machine was hoisted outside and Kevin and Tommy mopped and emptied buckets, upon buckets of water. The "new" machine is busy, busy, busy and we are disappointed that the tub is a lot smaller than the other, but it is not spraying water all over our house nor is it refusing to work. Hooray. :) Thank goodness the diapers were completely done when the washer decided to kick the bucket.

Anyone want a used washer? It's in great shape (minus the broken belt, tweeting sound and who knows what else).
