DCR: castle island

This summer we started visiting DCR sites, again.  And once again I could not find our stamp books...so we got more.   Then I found an older one and cut out the one site in it and glued it to the new book.   Sigh, we'll see how long I can hang on to this one.

One, particularly, hot Sunday we decided to go to Fort Independence.  Typically it is a great place to watch planes at the airport and see boats in the harbor.  It is free to park there and it has great paths around the park.

Today, hoping for some respite from the heat, we decided to go into the fort.   In the past this fort tour has you go through the bunks and rooms used in the fort walls (read much, much cooler).  Today, the tour was the top of the fort. Although, the guide promised an abbreviated tour due to the heat.  Basically we learned about the cannons, the flags that adorn the fort, and how previous forts protected the harbor, even though they didn't see much action.
