Laundry Changes

There have been changes at our house.  Changes in our diapering laundry.   Traditionally, diapers should be washed in a cloth diaper safe detergent, that basically means no optical brighners, no scents, no extras...We did that for 3 plus years until little bro started to have owies.    His diapers were also stinking the moment he wet them...Not such a good thing.  What's a girl to do??

I changed my soap from Planet to Nellie's Natural Washing Soda.   This seemed to work... for a day.  Not nearly long enough.    Step 2: add calogen to the mix.   This seemed to do NOTHING.  Maybe I didn't add enough??  The stuff is pricey and only sold at k-mart, let me tell you there are none of those within a decent radius.    Anyway, tried that and failed.

Next:  bleached inserts then used oxiclean on all the diapers.   DIDN'T WORK.   Why????   I think I have hard, mineral rich, well water.    Boo.    So long story short I bought Tide.  (shudder).  I have not bought Tide in 4 years.  We have exclusively used an earth-friendly detergent for everything since we started cloth diapering.   But I couldn't take the stink.

Enough people had said in various blogs and forums that Tide works in hard water.   Some diapering companies even endorse Tide (I know...it shocked me too).    So, Tide it is.   At week 3 of Tide, it seems to be working.   I have had some issues with leaking (not sure if it is user error, old diaper, or Tide's fault), but overall I have a happier baby and better smells.
